Before Christ: What They See
Before Christ: What They See
Before Christ: What They See
Before Christ: What They See
In the photographs, you see Monique, a Black woman and Crip, innocently throwing up a gang sign and wearing a blue bandana in a church parking lot. But you do not see Monique intimidating a community of people, inflicting harm to anyone, or projecting hate, instead she creates a different image and does not conform to what the media and white America only sees. Black people have also contributed to rejecting gang members, while failing to understand their very own people. So, we have to acknowledge how gangs have historically resisted social injustices and oversaturated authority in Black and brown communities.
