BLACK LOVE: Revolutionary

Black love is revolutionary, and it shall be televised.

Black love is rich, it has more value than a dollar bill and it is richer than coonery. Black love is not “that nigga ain’t shit”. And black love is not “bitch, this and bitch, that”.

At this point, it may be fair to say that black men might just believe they are “not shit” because the media’s language devalues their existence. Black women are too subjected to hate as the most disrespected, unprotected, and neglected people in America. Yet black women provide emotional and substantial love to support black men.

Through the lens of Kennedi Carter, our vision is shifted from relentless and desensitizing visuals of black men and women to the beauty aesthetic that derives from blackness. The black body is a hot commodity, and it’s essential to love ourselves and each other. The nude black couple, Domonique and DeNea, combats the white gaze that fetishizes the black body. In this photograph, black love unapologetically challenges signifiers of racial injustices in our everyday lives through fashion, style, and dress to emulate beauty.

“What’s done in the dark comes to light,” isn’t cliche. As white America strengthens racial tactics to separate the black family through mass incarceration, black love resists generational curses and highlights the essence of a collective spirit to eradicate power structures and oppression.

Black love deserves our spectatorship, black love acknowledges the deliberate and unchanging ignorance of racism. The black male body is not beastial and violent; instead the black man’s body gestures a sense of vulnerability as he protects the black woman. The black woman’s body is protected and it’s beauty aesthetics from curvy hips to calf muscles and full lips can’t be bought. The black woman’s body is supreme and emulates beauty derived from her conscious mind.

The unification of black love has revealed our divine purposes to explore and internalize our truth. With love, black men and women were created in the image of God. I pray to God, he heals our souls as we celebrate the awakening of blackness in our everyday lives. Black love is angelic, black love is pure, and black love is revolutionary - it shall be televised!
